1)A strategically important new Naval base — INS
Sardar Patel — was commissioned in Porbandar.The base was commissioned by Gujarat Chief
Minister Anandiben Patel.
2) Victory Day is Russia's most important secular
holiday, both commemorating the Soviet Union's
huge suffering in the war and highlighting
Russia's portrayal of itself as a force for peace
and security.Chinese President Xi Jinping was the most
prominent world leader to attend the Victory Day

parade.
3) The first centre for Gandhian studies in China
will be inaugurated at Shanghai’s Fudan
University by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The Centre for Gandhian Studies will be
established at the Fudan University in China and
the staff for it will be provided by Indian Council
of Cultural Relations (ICCR).Mr. Modi, during his visit from May 14-16, will
also announce the setting up of a Yoga College in
China.
4) In a big push for infrastructure development in
Chhattisgarh, MoUs worth Rs 24,000 crore were
signed at Dantewada.
5) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch three
social security schemes pertaining to insurance
and pension in Kolkata.While two insurance schemes - Pradhan Mantri
Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan
Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) will
provide insurance cover in the unfortunate event
of death by any cause or disability due to an
accident, the pension scheme - Atal Pension
Yojana (APY) will address the old age income
security needs.
6) To cash in on growing online shopping trend,
India Post Delhi circle will start its e-commerce
centre from 11th May 2015. the Department of
Posts, through Delhi Postal Circle has taken up a
project to establish the e-commerce centre at
Safdarjang, New Delhi. The centre is capable of handling 30,000
parcels or articles per day and parcels collected
from the e-commerce customers, processed and
dispatched within 24 hours to respective
destination.
7) Axis Bank, the country's third largest private
sector bank now facilitates instant transfer of
money on various social media channels like
Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Email list and phone
contact list. The transfer of funds is instant.The person to person funds transfer through
Ping Pay would happen via NPCI's Immediate
Payment Service (IMPS) and currently the
transaction limit is at Rs 50,000 per day.
8) In the International Film Festival, the Cannes
Film Festival a short documentary called '7 Years
To Grace' made in Chhattisgarh has been selected
for Cannes Short Film Corner 2015.
9) According to the biannual ‘World Economic
Forum The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness
Report 2015’ India has moved up 13 notches to
52nd position on the global list, but ranks worse
than its emerging market peers like China, Brazil,
Russia and South Africa.
10)The Chandrayaan-2, India's second mission
to the Moon, which includes an Orbiter, Lander
and Rover configuration, is planned to be
launched in the 2017- 2018 timeframe by a
Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV)
from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at
Sriharikota.
11) Credit information company Equifax has
appointed Manish Sinha as the new managing
director and country head for India.
12) A record number of 10 Indian-origin Members of
Parliament (MPs) were elected in recently
concluded general election that elected 56th
Parliament of the UK.
It has broken the previous 2010 general election
record in which eight Indian-origin were elected.
13)United States (US) President Barack Obama has
nominated Sanjita Pradhan, an IIT alumnus to his
advisory commission on Asian Americans and
Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
Sanjita Pradhan is a Nepali American. She holds
an MBA from the Indian Institute of Technology.
14) National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered that
every household in Delhi must pay a monthly
environmental compensation to clean up pollution
in Yamuna River.
Decision in this regard was taken by NGT bench
headed by its chairperson Justice Swatanter
Kumar.
15) Indian Army and Bank of India (BOI) on 8 May
2015 signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
on the Defence Salary Package.
The signed MoU is a revised version of previous
and first MoU which was signed in 2011 between
both parties
16)Sakshi Malik and Lalita bagged bronze medal in
Women's Freestyle 60kg and 55kg categories,
respectively, even as Babita Kumari lost out on a
third-place finish in 53kg division of the Senior
Asian Wrestling Championship in Doha.
